All About Sunderland Riverside Heritage Trail App
As part of the Tall Ships Races Sunderland a Cultural Heritage Programme was devised with an overarching title of ‘Made for the Open Seas’. This involved a mix of creative artistic and heritage projects, developed to welcome and engage communities and visitors. ‘Harbouring Heritage’ was an exciting heritage programme of activities led by Sunderland City Council and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Sunderland Riverside Heritage Trail has been developed as a part of this strand of the programme.
Sunderland is a place steeped in history with a long tradition of ship building and an extremely rich maritime heritage going back centuries. Learn more about this history by exploring a number of points of interest along the trail including Trafalgar Square, Wearmouth Bridge, Potato Garth and Roker Pier.

The maps also have a trail line to aid moving from point to point. For those who wish to make their own trail, the map allows this with ease to make new routes between Points of Interest.

Using your phones GPS, you’ll be guided around the City of Sunderland to see all the Points of Interest. The icon on the map will change colour to highlight the points you have visited, particularly useful if planning to complete the trail during multiple visits.
